restoring classical education
Our public schools lack the great books and timeless principles of classical education. They leave our children ill-prepared to face the moral challenges that exist in our world today.
This must change.LEARN MORE
Palmetto Classical Charter School will stress rigorous educational standards as well as time-honored principles. At Palmetto Classical, we are committed to the pursuit of scholastic excellence, truth, wisdom, and the love of lifelong learning. Students at Palmetto Classical will engage in the classical studies of our forefathers who laid the foundation of our American freedoms, rights, and responsibilities. Conquering the challenging demands of a Core Knowledge curriculum will prepare Palmetto Classical students to be the future American leaders of their academic settings, chosen careers, and their communities.
The focus of classical education is characterized by three stages of training the mind to think. The early years of school are spent in absorbing facts and laying the groundwork for advanced study. In the middle grades, students learn to think through arguments. In the high school years, they learn to articulate their thoughts clearly. Through the study of grammar, logic, and rhetoric, Palmetto Classical students will discover their strengths, talents, and gifts. They will learn to think critically, reason clearly, and communicate effectively to excel in academic as well as future career settings. Palmetto Classical students will learn to exist in our modern age with integrity, honesty, and a strong work ethic.
As a group of business, health, and educational professionals, we want to offer families in Lowcountry of South Carolina an additional school resource. Our charter committee is comprised of business owners of local companies, a family nurse practitioner, a former military leader and director of EMS, a Clemson Extension 4-H agent, a guidance counselor and several teachers—both retired and currently employed in our community schools. We believe that, as a free public school, Palmetto Classical will offer a type of approach and curricula that are not offered in our area today. While Palmetto Classical may not be the path every child should follow, we do believe giving families more choices is always in the best interests of parents and their children.
Palmetto Classical Charter School anticipates beginning with grades K-2 in the fall of 2018 and adding one grade per year. Palmetto Classical Charter School will be located on the campus of First Baptist Church in Varnville, South Carolina.
Families in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, Palmetto Classical Charter School will exist to serve you. To succeed in the 21st century, kids need to be grounded in academic rigor, competition, courage, and honor—exactly what a classical education will teach.
In order to get started as a South Carolina Charter School, Palmetto Classical needs local families to raise their hand and say “I’m interested.” These expressions of interest, when reported to the state charter school district, are the first building blocks of launching a charter school.
